Doug helps clients secure and protect their intellectual property. He also advises clients on strategies to avoid or defend themselves against intellectual property owned by others.
Doug represents a diverse group of clients from individual inventors to companies of all sizes. His clients are primarily involved in life science industries. Doug’s work extends to numerous technology areas including biotechnology, genetics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food technology, medical devices and mechanical devices. Doug provides advice regarding due diligence, domestic and foreign patent prosecution, reexaminations, litigation, inter-parties matters, patentability opinions, infringement opinions and validity opinions.
Doug worked as a scientist researching structure-function relationships of biomolecules. During that time he developed an interest in how the products of science are delivered to a wider audience. That interest led to Doug’s work in patent law.
Publications, Presentations and Recognitions
Doug is an author on several scientific publications related to ribosome structure and the translation of genetic information into protein. Doug has also authored articles and presentations on patent law.
He was selected for inclusion in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® Rising Stars, published by Thomson Reuters, from 2012-2015. Doug served as a panelist for The Patent Protection for Pharma and Biotechnology webcast, produced by The Knowledge Group, LLC, in 2016.
Doug is a member of the Pennsylvania Intellectual Property Law Association and the Association of University Technology Managers.

Doug is admitted to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the District of Utah. He is licensed in Pennsylvania and Utah and registered to practice with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Life Beyond the Law
I enjoy skiing, hiking and generally any outdoor activity; and they are all more fun with my family.
