Joseph Boos’ practice focuses on evaluating and securing patents, analyzing patents relating to industry standards, counseling clients on patent portfolio acquisition and protection, evaluating patent portfolios from both a technical and legal viewpoint, and identifying and developing evidence of use and infringement positions.
Joseph counsels large size clients in the wireless communications and computing technologies industries.
Joseph counsels clients on US and Foreign patent prosecution strategy including identifying client goals, and developing a strategy to secure a patent in an expeditious and cost effective manner. Joseph has experience in the Patent Rules in the US and also in countries around the globe including China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Georgia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, India, Mexico, Malaysia, Norway, Singapore, and Venezuela. As the rules vary in each country, Joseph works with Associates in each country to secure a patent in the most effective manner based on the client’s goals. Joseph also has experience in counseling clients regarding patent prosecution strategy in the European Patent Convention and the Patent Cooperation Treaty.
Once a patent prosecution strategy is developed, Joseph implements the strategy by prosecuting the patent application. This includes analyzing and responding to Office Actions from the Patent Office, conducting telephone and in-person interviews with Patent Examiners, and re-evaluating the patent prosecution strategy based on US and Foreign prosecution progress.
Joseph counsels clients on patent portfolio acquisition by evaluating the strengths or weaknesses of individual patents and patent portfolios as a whole.
Joseph also provides licensing and litigation support to clients by creating claims charts relating to industry standards or products, evaluating file histories, and identifying strengths and weaknesses of a patent claim.
Joseph also counsels clients in identifying and submitting patents to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), which is a European Standards Organization.

Life Beyond the Law
I enjoy spending time with my wife and children. My daughter is a level 9 competitive gymnast and we travel to meets in Pennsylvania, New York, and Maryland. My son is also an athlete, and you may find us on the baseball diamond, the dirt bike track, or the ski slopes. I also enjoy flight dynamics and aspire to get a private pilot license one day.
