Joe’s practice focuses on the monetization of patent portfolios including the strategic prosecution of US and foreign patents and participation in licensing programs.
Joe works closely with clients of all sizes to monetize their patent portfolio. Whether the client is a publicly traded company or a private equity firm, Joe is able to assist with their IP needs. Joe’s experience includes reviewing patent portfolios for the most valuable assets, participating in licensing meetings, and managing the work of several attorneys. He also has experience working with technical experts and developing test plans in order to determine if intellectual property assets are infringed by commercial products. Recently, Joe assisted a client with the marketing and sale of a large patent portfolio.
Joe has experience prosecuting US and domestic patents related to wireless communication systems, network architectures, computer systems, computer software, video cards and video components.
Joe has experience preparing claim charts with mappings to standards and commercial products. Additionally, Joe prepares arguments that rebut proposed mappings in claim charts. He also performs due diligence work in a wide range of technical areas in order to better evaluate business transactions.

Joe is a contributor to the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Division (YLD) newsletter. Joe also contributes to the Legal Intelligencer including the following article, “IP Rights a Factor in Blockbuster Merchandising Campaigns”, M. Snyder and J. Gushue; The Legal Intelligencer, September 2, 2009.
Joe also presents at CLEs held in the area. His CLE presentations include the following: Is Everything Old New Again? At the New York ComicCon; Reexaminations: Ex Parte and Inter Partes; Bilski: Lessons Learned; and Acquiring Patent Rights Around the World.
Joe was selected for inclusion in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® Rising Stars, published by Thomson Reuters, from 2013-2016.
Joe is the vice-chair of the International Patent Law Committee of the ABA. He is also a member of the Foreign Practice Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association. Joe is also an active member of the Young Lawyer Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Life Beyond the Law
I am a comic book collector, aspiring home brewer, amateur movie critic, and Philadelphia sports fan. I am also the firm’s athletic director serving as coach for our softball and basketball teams. I will rarely be found without my cell phone and I cannot live without RSS feeds.
