PHILADELPHIA (October 10, 2013) – Volpe and Koenig, P.C., an intellectual property (IP) law firm with offices in Philadelphia, Pa. and Princeton, N.J., announced the publication of a new book, “Intellectual Property in Consumer Electronics, Software and Technology Startups,” co-authored by President and CEO Gerald B. (Jay) Halt, Jr., Shareholder John C. Donch and former Volpe and Koenig law clerk Amber R. Stiles.  Robert W. Fesnak, managing partner of Fesnak and Associates, LLP, an accounting firm headquartered in the greater Philadelphia region, also served as a contributing author.  The book was recently released at the end of September, and may be purchased through Amazon.com.

“Intellectual Property in Consumer Electronics, Software and Technology Startups” was written to provide a comprehensive guide to procuring, utilizing and monetizing intellectual property rights, with an eye toward those in the high-tech consumer electronics and software industries, as well as technology startups.  Numerous real life examples, case studies and scenarios are incorporated throughout; what to consider throughout the various creative phases of a product’s lifespan from initial research and development initiatives through post-production is also covered.

Said Halt of the decision to write the book, “Due to the rapidly evolving nature of intellectual property (IP) issues, we recognized that there was a real need to address the current state of the IP field – particularly for startup companies and larger firms in the high-tech industry – not only from a legal perspective, but also from a business and financial standpoint.  The book sets forth practical strategies to help businesses navigate this rapidly changing landscape.”
