First Steps to Portfolio Monetization – Asset Mining
art of Volpe Koenig's CLE Webinar Series, ,this program was presented on October 13, 2021
Capitalizing on an existing intellectual property portfolio can turn unused assets into revenue generators. Determining those assets and assessing the licensing potential requires a methodical process combined with a highly specialized knowledge of the technologies involved and opportunities available.
The IP portfolio review, often known as “Data Mining” and “Harvesting” is usually a collaborative effort between the inventors, company and outside IP professionals.
This webinar provides a rationale for why companies should be mining, along with an overview of the early phases of commercialization including types of mining, steps to mining, common obstacles and tips for asset review.
The presenters will walk through the nuances of claim mining and specification mining beginning with asset identification, through EOU identification, claim charting and infringement, prior art searches, foreign prosecution review and broadening reissues.
Attendees will learn:
• Pros and cons of using software to identify assets of interest in a portfolio
• How to select and assess expert technology, business and legal resources
• Strength check considerations during mapping development
• Implications from 101/Alice and standard obligations/FRAND
